🛡️
Local-First & Zero Tracking Commitment SmartFill is engineered with strict privacy-by-design principles. All your autofill rules, form field values, and settings are stored locally on your device in your browser. We do not sell your personal information, we do not track your browsing activity across websites, and we do not serve advertisements.

1 Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how SmartFill (“we”, “our”, or “the extension”) handles information when you use the SmartFill Chrome Browser Extension and the companion SmartFill Web Studio located at fill.subhanh.com.

SmartFill provides developer and productivity tooling allowing users to capture specific form inputs on web pages, create autofill rules, and automatically populate matching fields to eliminate repetitive typing.

2 Information We Collect & Process

SmartFill processes only the minimal information strictly required to perform its core form-filling functions:

Data Category Examples Storage Location Purpose
Autofill Rules Field labels, CSS selectors, XPath, input values Local device (chrome.storage.local) To identify and populate input elements on user request
Domain Scopes Target domain (e.g. github.com or Global) Local device (chrome.storage.local) To restrict rule execution solely to user-intended websites
User Preferences Theme (Dark/Light), auto-fill on load, flash highlight Local device (chrome.storage.local) To respect your user interface & automation settings
Cloud Account (Optional) Email address, authentication token Secure remote server (Encrypted over TLS) Only if you voluntarily choose to sync rules between machines

What we NEVER collect: SmartFill does NOT collect or monitor your general browsing history, search queries, passwords from other extensions or password managers, keystrokes outside selected elements, device fingerprints, or financial information.

3 Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure

SmartFill complies with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, including the User Data Policy and Limited Use requirements:

SmartFill's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
  • No Sale of Data: We will never sell, lease, or monetize your user data or autofill contents to any third party, broker, or advertising network.
  • No Unrelated Uses: We will not use or transfer user data to serve personalized, targeted, or interest-based advertising.
  • No Lending/Credit Decisions: We will not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
  • Strict Purpose Limitation: User data is accessed solely to provide and improve the user-facing autofill and element inspection functionality.

4 Permissions Requested & Why

To provide automated form filling, the extension requests the following permissions in its manifest:

Permission Justification & Specific Use
storage Required to store your custom rules, field selectors, and UI settings locally on your machine.
activeTab Required to inspect the targeted input field when you activate the element selector or click “Fill Now”.
scripting Required to inject the interactive click-to-pick overlay and populate values into the active webpage.
<all_urls> Required so that you can use SmartFill on any web form across any site you visit.

5 Your Data Control, Export & Deletion Rights

You maintain 100% ownership and control over all data stored in SmartFill:

  • Edit or Delete Individual Rules: You can modify or remove any individual rule at any time directly through the extension popup or the Web Studio.
  • Export Your Rules (JSON): You can download a complete JSON backup of all your saved rules with one click from the Settings tab.
  • Import Rules: You can migrate your rules between browsers using the built-in JSON import feature.
  • Complete Erasure (“Clear All”): Clicking “Clear All” in Settings permanently erases all rules and stored values from your browser storage immediately.
  • Uninstalling the Extension: Removing the SmartFill extension from Chrome automatically deletes all local storage associated with it.

6 Data Security

Because SmartFill stores your autofill data directly in Chrome's sandboxed local storage, your data is protected by the browser's built-in process isolation and origin security model. Any communications between the extension and the Web Studio or optional cloud sync utilize industry-standard TLS/HTTPS encryption.

7 Contact Information & Policy Updates
